Sustainability & CSR

How we're giving back and helping to save our planet

Here’s just a taste of some of the efforts we’re making at Emma’s to combine our passion for the environment with our dedication to deliver a truly great food and drink experience for our customers.

Local Food and Drink

By supporting producers and suppliers of all things edible who live within a reasonable radius of Bath makes so much sense. We get to cook and serve seasonal ingredients when they’re at their absolute best; and we’re contributing to the local community and regional economy; and we’re making a significant reduction to our carbon footprint by radically cutting down on food miles. It also helps our customers experience and enjoy the taste and flavours of Bath and the surrounding area.

For example, we have partnered with Bath based, Bertinet Bakery who believe that everyone should have access to great quality bread, every day. Bread that is free from additives and preservatives and is made with simple, natural ingredients by people that bake with care and attention.

We also stock a range of premium, authentic, and inventive beers from Bath Ales, fronted by flagship ale, Gem. And also jubilant juices from Frobishers, being their simplest, most timeless range of soft drink.

Ethically/Responsibly Sourced Food and Drink

Our local producers and suppliers all uphold our high ethical, environment and social standards. Using ethically sourced food and drink e.g., Fairtrade, helps provide a better lifestyle and living conditions for producers. Responsibly sourced and produced food and drink means that environment is better protected during the production process and can help increase biodiversity e.g., MSC seafood.

For example we have partnered with Bath based Seven Hills that is one of the few companies in the U.K to make chocolate directly from the cocoa bean. They buy in carefully selected, ethically sourced beans from around the world that are sorted by hand, then roasted, cracked, ground then tempered, moulded, and packed. It's a slow, painstaking process but each stage is vital to the quality of the final product.

And we work with UK based drinks company, Belu, which produces carbon-neutral and ethically-sourced bottled waters and filtration systems and donates 100% of its profits to WaterAid.

Healthy Eating Food Options

Recognising the demand for plant-based and vegetarian food is growing significantly our menu has various delicious vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options that can have a lower environmental impact compared to meat and can help promote a healthier lifestyle.

Our healthy eating options can help customers make informed choices especially if they are weight conscious or have medical reasons for eating healthily such as diabetes, high blood pressure etc.

Please do let us know if you require any information on the food and drink options on the menu.

Special & Religious Dietary Requirements

There are a growing number of customers that have a special dietary requirement due to medical conditions or lifestyle choices. As travellers become more multinational there will be a growing demand for religious dietary requirements. As an inclusive and caring restaurant we are happy to cater for any special and religious dietary requirements where possible.

If you have any questions about the food and drink options on the menu please do let us know.

Green Key

In 2024 we formed a Green Team and set about reviewing and enhancing our sustainability efforts, to enable the hotel to achieve the Green Key accreditation. The Green Key award is the leading standard for excellence in the field of environmental responsibility and sustainable operation within the tourism industry. This prestigious eco-label represents a commitment by businesses that their premises adhere to the strict criteria set by the Foundation for Environmental Education. A Green Key stands for the promise to its guests that by opting to stay with the Green Key establishment, they are helping to make a difference on an environmental level.

We’ve signed up to Tourism Declares, an initiative that supports tourism businesses, organisations and individuals in declaring a climate emergency and taking purposeful action to reduce their carbon emissions to 55% below 2017 levels by 2030.
